Iñigo Urkullu: ´Aguirre’s legacy is the legacy of the agreement that EAJ-PNV is relaunching with ADOS”
The Chairman of the National Council (EBB) of the EAJ-PNV (Basque Nationalist Party), Iñigo Urkullu, attended the University of the Basque Country's Summer School where he gave a lecture entitled "Leading in 20th Century Politics" to mark the 50th anniversary of the death of the first Lehendakari or Basque Premier, José Antonio Aguirre. Urkullu said he was pleased to have the opportunity to respond to the invitation's question of "What makes History?", and answered that "Aguirre makes history".

The 3rd Bilbao Dialogues focus on Latin America in September
In a year in which various countries in Latin America are celebrating the bicentenary of their independence, on 27 and 28 September the 3rd Bilbao Dialogues will analyse the present and future of Latin America. This forum for discussion and debate between European and Latin American politicians and scholars will have a three-pronged approach in the 2010 edition: the regional integration of Latin America and its interaction with Europe; a new Latin American perspective on Europe; and Latin America within the 21st century's new scenarios. On 28 September there will be a public lecture "The crisis seen from three different viewpoints in Latin America: Chile, Brazil and Mexico".

Basque Country celebrates sporting victories
Basque sports has good reason to celebrate. The victory of Baskonia, the promotion of Real sociedad and Biarritz reaching the final of the European Cup have capped a season of sporting victories that raise great expectation for the future. Quality, determination, enthusiasm and a great deal of hard work enabled the Caja Laboral Baskonia basketball team to achieve its dream of becoming ACB champion, enabled the historic San Sebastian-based football club to return to Division One and enabled Biarritz to enjoy the experience of a European Cup Final. Come on champs! Come on you fans! Thank you for making our sport great.

EAJ-PNV brings the annual meeting of the ALDE Group of the European Parliament to the Basque Country
The ALDE Group (EUROPEAN LIBERALS AND DEMOCRATS), the third most numerous in the European Parliament, holder of the balance of power between the two ideological blocks in the European Parliament (Popular and Socialist Groups), will hold in Bilbao from 28 to 30 June the meeting it organizes each year outside Brussels. During the visit, organised by EAJ-PNV, the Group will analyse its strategy for the next half year on subjects as important as the economic governance of Europe, and will review the six months of the Spanish Presidency.

EAJ-PNV considers that the European Liberals are a breath of fresh air
At the opening of the meeting of the Liberal and Democratic European Parliamentary Group held in Bilbao, the president of the EAJ-PNV Bizkai Buru Batzar, Andoni Ortuar, stated that ALDE represented "a breath of fresh air in contrast to the old politics of blocks in Europe. ALDE represents a new way of making and understanding Europe, a way which helps to unite the people over and above the egoism of states, and which respects cultures and peoples and generates wellbeing".

A delegation of EAJ-PNV attend the Political Council of the EDP
A delegation of EAJ-PNV attend the half-yearly meeting of the Political Council of the European Democratic Party to be held in Warsaw on the 11th June. The EAJ-PNV delegation be composed of the EBB Exterior Activities councillors Iñaki Goikoetxeta and Aitor Olaizola and the secretary of the Exterior area, José María Etxebarria.

Singapore awards the ´Nobel Prize´ for cities to Bilbao
Singapore has ratified the award of the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize, the 'Nobel' of cities, to Bilbao. In its first edition, the award recognises the "integral and holistic" transformation of the city. Ibon Areso, deputy mayor with a deep knowledge of the transformation Bilbao has undergone in the last 15 years, said that: "It is a great honour to be awarded a prize of this nature, and especially from Singapore, a city from which we have much to learn in the field of innovation, our current challenge".

Iñigo Urkullu meets Mexican & Portuguese Ambassadors
Iñigo Urkullu, Chairman of the Governing Council of the Basque Nationalist Party, met with the Mexican and Portuguese ambassadors, Jorge Zermeño and Alvaro Mendoça e Moura, in the framework of a programme of visits in which the leaders discussed various topics of international and Basque politics.

´Political Decisions Cannot Stand the Test of Common Sense´
The Exterior Action Strategy of the Basque Government adopted on 15 March 2005 analysed, amongst other questions, geographic scenarios of interest with reference to the definition and extension of the map of Basque Country Offices in the exterior. At that time the following spheres or lines of action were agreed for the execution of said strategy: firstly, the creation of Offices in Germany, France, the United Kingdom, United States and Canada. Secondly, in the medium term, the question of the advisability of developing and deepening current relations with other European countries, amongst which Finland and Italy were specifically cited, was raised. Lastly, it was decided to analyse future convergence with other geographic areas such as India, Indonesia, Australia, South Africa and Senegal as attractive sites for departmental or sectorial projects.

Iñigo Urkullu, chairman of the Governing Council of the Basque Nationalist Party (EAJ-PNV) said at the Aberri Eguna celebrations in the Plaza Nueva square in Bilbao that "we are a people, we form a nation and we want to be free. Euskadi is a people with its own identity that is entitled to defend itself and to maintain a presence in the world".
