Ortuzar: “Batzoki Telebista, BAT telebista, has been born ready to grow"
The new television channel Batzoki Telebista, BAT telebista (Basque National Party Television) has been inaugurated at the batzoki of Trapaga. The president of the provincial organisation of the party, Andoni Ortuzar, the president of the provincial parliament of Biscay, Ana Madariaga and the Euro-representative Izaskun Bilbao were also present at the opening ceremony.

Izaskun Bilbao asks EU for data on high-speed rail work in France and Spain
Basque National Party Euro-MP Izaskun Bilbao Barandica has asked the European Commission for full data on the degree of completion of work on the so-called “Basque Y” rail link and the line in France that is to connect to it. Specifically, she wishes to learn whether this cross-border section of railway line, known in the EU as “priority project 3”, is expected to be completed by the deadline set by the Commission and whether it is to be included in the European strategy for the Atlantic Rim area.

Izaskun Bilbao calls on EU not to fear right to decide
In the course of a debate in the European Parliament on the recent referendum that has resulted in the secession of Southern Sudan, Basque National Party Euro-MP Izaskun Bilbao called for Europe to “shake off its fear of principles such as the free will of individuals, their right to decide and the exercise of the right of self-determination".

Erkoreka describes first use of Basque language in Senate as “excellent” and calls for extension to Congress
Josu Erkoreka, spokesman of the EAJ-PNV Basque National Group, has described the first ever use of joint official languages in the Senate as “excellent”, because "the Upper House is representative of the various territories of a multi-lingual state, and as such I believe that this manifestation of heterogeneity and linguistic wealth is a step forward and a gesture of tolerance characteristic of an advanced state".

EAJ-PNV is the only political party to submit amendments to increase spending on the Basque diaspora
Budgets and the ensuing amendments submitted by the political parties are an exponent of the political purpose of a Government. Those amendments may be to increase, cut or remove items from the budget. The Euzko Abertzaleak-Basque National (EAJ-PNV) Group of the Basque Parliament is the only political group to propose increases for the budgetary items for the activities organised by the Euskal Etxeak (Basque centres overseas) and Federations.

The Basque football team to play Venezuela
The traditional Christmas match organised by Basque football team will be against Venezuela this year and will kick off at the San Mamés stadium on 29 December. After two years of absence since its last match with Catalonia in December 2007, it is yet again time to demand that the Basque football team be officially recognised.

EAJ-PNV says that cutting funding for the ikastolas is ´despicable´
The EAJ-PNV member of parliament, Garbiñe Mendizabal, considers the Basque Government's cutting funding for the Iparralde ikastolas (schools where children are taught in Basque in the French Basque Country) to be "despicable" and has accused the PP political party of being "behind this decision".

Izaskun Bilbao expects Citizens‘ Initiative to open door to Europe

The Basque National Party (EAJ-PNV) expects the regulations approved this morning in Strasbourg on the implementation of the European Citizens' Initiative to "open the door to European institutions for people's concerns and provide an opportunity for the regions to overcome the shortfall in recognition from which they suffer in the current institutional structure of the European Union". This opinion was expressed by EAJ-PNV MEP Izaskun Bilbao during the debate on the Initiative in the European Parliament.

Proposal by Basque Group in Congress to sign European Social Charter approved

Emilio Olabarria, a member of the Basque Group in Congress, has presented motions urging the government to sign up to the European Social Charter and draw up a map of persons suffering from deafblindness and a new, fairer yardstick for evaluating their degrees of disability. Both motions have been approved unanimously by the Committee on Labour and Immigration and the Temporary Committee on Integrated Disability Policies.

Speaking in Sukarrieta on the anniversary of the death of Sabino Arana, the EAJ-PNV EBB Chairman, Iñigo Urkullu, stressed that "we have to discuss the future, a new future for the Basque Country. We can start now, as this agreement, that we hope is transcendental, will enable us to work towards ensuring compliance of the Statute of Autonomy, towards consolidating self-government and will be the driving force for the institutionalisation of the Basque Country. It has not been easy, and it is not going to be easy, but reaching this agreement has been a great victory in the struggle to defend the interests of the Basque Country. Work is already underway and we will take stock next year".
