The Kursaal Conference Centre in Donostia - San Sebastián has been chosen as the setting to host the 5th World Congress of Basque Communities Abroad 2011 on 2, 3 and 4 November.

An EAJ-BNP delegation travelled to the city of San Domingo (Dominican Republic) to take part in the 12th Biarritz Forum on 12, 13 and 14 October, held under the slogan of "The new Vision of Latin America for the 21st Century - European and Latin American Perspectives".

EAJ-BNP Argentina celebrates its centenary
At 7.30 p.m. on Saturday 5 November, the chairman of the Sabino Arana Foundation and representative of the Argentina Buru Batzar at the meeting of the EAJ-BNP National Assembly, Juan Mari Atutxa, will give a speech at the "Zazpirak bat" Basque Centre of Argentina to mark the centenary of the Basque National Party in that country.

Thousands of people attended the XXXI Nafarroa Oinez in Tafalla to showcase the “cultural heritage” of the Basque Language. The event, organised by the Ikastola Garcés de los Fayos school, was held under the ‘Hamaika 11n‘ slogan.

Urkullu urged López to “be true to himself" and said that he was doing “a disservice” by “confusing” his competence
The EAJ-BNP EBB Chairman, Iñigo Urkullu, pointed out that Patxi López is doing “a disservice” to the figure of the Lehendakari (Basque Premier) by "confusing time and time again what his competences are". Urkullu therefore urged him to "be true to himself". He also pointed out that his party has “no problem with discussing” the fiscal reform, but “in the right way and in the right place".

“4th Bilbao Dialogues” come to an end
The representatives of the European Democratic Party (PDE-EDP) and of the Latin American Demo-Christian parties, who took part in the 4th Bilbao Dialogues, organised by Sabino Arana Fundazioa and the PDE, on 26 and 27 September, brought the seminar to an end and agreed that “only a world development model can guarantee a way out of the economic crisis”.

Nearly 500 people attended the events to mark the opening of the Basque Culinary Center
This marks a turning point in the history of the gastronomy of this country. The opening of the Basque Culinary Center elevates gastronomy to science and for the first time it is now a university subject. It has been set up through the Faculty of Gastronomic Sciences and Culinary Arts at Mondragon Unibertsitatea and the Centre of Food and Gastronomy Research and Innovation. It is also the only gastronomic university in the world to have a R&D centre onsite.

Urkullu: “Izan garelako, izango gara”
During the Alderdi Eguna, the packed annual celebration of the Basque National Party, the EAJ-BNP EBB chairman, Iñigo Urkullu, stressed that “we are in a new era. We are coming to the end of the cycle of violence in the Basque Country. We do not accept accounts or calculations. Society is demanding peace for peace sakes. And nothing else”.

Imanol Harinordoquy, a Basque at the Rugby World Cup
Imanol Harinordoquy is the only Basque taking part in the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand. The Labourd-born player, who is currently at for Biarritz Olympique, has been called up to the French team, one of the favourites to win the title.

Musical festivals in the Basque Country
This year, the Bilbao BBK Live beat its own records with a total of 103,000 people attending the three days of the festival. Bilbao BBK Live is a pop rock macro-festival held at the Kobetamendi venue in Bilbao. The festival has consolidated its profile thanks to its many leading headliners that attract thousands of fans.
