Financial Times acknowledges Basque government’s “Invest in the Basque Country” strategy in Cannes

The annual report of this leading British newspaper points to the Basque Country as the best medium-sized region in Europe in terms of connectivity for foreign investment, the sixth best in terms of strategies for attracting foreign investment and the fifth best in southern Europe across all indicators for attracting investment as a whole.

Basque per capita GDP stands at €30,459, 30% higher than the figure for Spain as a whole

Spain’s GDP grew by 3.2% last year, more than the 3.1% recorded in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country (ACBC) and the 2.9% in Navarre, according to data from the INE (Spanish Statistical Office). However, per capita GDP remains 30.8% higher than the Spanish average in the ACBC and 23.2% higher in Navarre.

Iberdrola awards Gamesa and Areva an order valued at 700 million euros in wind power

Iberdrola is to build its fourth offshore wind farm in Saint-Brieuc Bay, off the Brittany coast in France. This renewable energy project will have an output of 500 MW. The joint venture between Adwen, with a 50% share, and Gamesa and its French partner Areva will supply the 62 wind turbines that will make up the renewable energy complex, located 20 kilometres out to sea.

CAF awarded the delivery of tramways to Canberra in Australia

Canberra in Australia has chosen the rolling stock manufacturer CAF for the supply of 14 tramways and their maintenance over 20 years, as part of a project that includes building the track for a new light railway in the city. This line will be 12 kilometres long and have 13 stops, linking the suburb of Gungahlin to the centre of the Australian capital. The first vehicles are scheduled for delivery towards the end of 2017.

Navarre‘s Budget for 2016 comes into force

Uxue Barkos, the First Minister of the Government of Navarre, has signed Navarre‘s Budget Act for 2016, after it was passed by the regional parliament. The public accounts prioritise social, education and health policies, which means that welfare spending accounts for the bulk of the budget, making up 55.87% of all non-financial expenditure, with an increase of 6.39% over the extended 2015 budget.

The Financial Times ranks Euskadi-The Basque Country as the best medium-sized region in Europe in logistics for foreign investment

A report published by the UK‘s Financial Times publishing group has ranked Euskadi-The Basque Country as Europe‘s best medium-sized region in terms of connectivity (logistics), with the sixth best strategy for attracting foreign investment. In addition, it is the fifth best in Southern Europe in all the indicators for the overall attraction of investments, as reported by the SPRI Group.
