Basque language & culture to be discussed in Oxford
In March 2014 Oxford University is to host the XVI Forum for Iberian Studies. For the second year, Basque and other languages spoken in the Peninsula will be studied. The core theme this year is Cultural and Linguistic Diversity in the Iberian Peninsula.

The Basque National Party to attend the Convention and International Leaders Forum organised by the US Democratic Party
The Basque National Party has been invited to the Democratic Convention to be held in Charlotte (NC) between 3 and 6 September. Specifically, EAJ-PNB will attend the Convention and International Leaders Forum (ILF 2012) organised by the National Democratic Institute, the foundation of the US Democratic Party, parallel to the Convention. This Forum brings together government representatives, MPs, ambassadors and party leaders from over 100 countries worldwide. The invitation was sent by Madeleine Albright, President of the ILF.

Urkullu: “The Basque Country is approaching a new era”
The Chairman of the Governing Board of the Basque National Party and the Basque Nationalist candidate for Lehendakari [Basque Premier] told the press gathered at Sabin Etxea that “the time for uncertainty has ended. The Basque Country is approaching a new era. The Basque Country has wasted precious time to face the future. And this Country cannot afford to continue wasting time”.

Bilbao to host 2013 World Cities Summit Mayors‘ Forum
On June 13-14, 2013 Bilbao is to host the annual World Cities Summit Mayors‘ Forum. Since its founding in 2010 this forum has been held in the Republic of Singapore. The event is expected to attract around 60 mayors from all over the world, and its “priority is to share “best practices” between cities and regions committed to sustainability, urban solutions and creating more liveable environments".

Urkullu: “Anyone who seeks to wipe clean the slate of our historical rights will find us standing against them”
In a speech on the Feast of St. Ignatius, Iñigo Urkullu, Chair of the Governing Council of the Basque National Party and the party‘s candidate for Basque Premier, stated that the Spanish government is “out for the count just seven months after being elected. It is a government with no road map, no vision and no overall strategy. A Spanish government that is hiding behind its absolute majority, obsessed with the most outdated centralism, imposing its ideas by legislative decree, failing to enter into dialogue or to seek consensus or agreement”.

Mexican Ambassador Visits Sabin Etxea
The Mexican Ambassador to Spain, Francisco Javier Ramírez Acuña, and the Mexican Consul General in Bilbao, Iñaki Azua, met this morning with Iñigo Urkullu, President of the National Governing Council of the Basque National Party, and Iñaki Goikoetxeta, a member of the Governing Council for Bizkaia, at the party headquarters in Bilbao.

19 June this year marked the 75th anniversary of the occupation of Bilbao by Franco’s forces
On the morning of 19 June 1937, Franco’s troops had taken up positions in the neighbourhoods of Begoña and Indautxu, and on both banks of the River Nervión, in Atxuri and San Francisco. According to dispatches issued by Franco’s army, around 10,000 gudaris, Basque soldiers, were in Bilbao at the time, armed with just 18,000 rounds of ammunition and 15,000 pistols.

Partenope honours Bilbao for its extraordinary urban redevelopment
Partenope, or Parthenope in English, is the name of the first city that stood on the site now occupied by Naples, and for the last four years it is also the name of a virtual city, created by Neapolitans, with the aim of changing the city’s image, encouraging and promoting civic behaviour amongst its citizens.
