“The EBB has agreed unanimously to put forward the name of Iñigo Urkullu Renteria as its forthcoming candidate for the Basque premiership. And Iñigo has accepted the nomination. A great day, a great decision. A special day, a special person. The current – and I am sure next – Basque Premier, Iñigo Urkullu. Eskerrik asko Lehendakari onartzeagatik. Eskerrik asko lau urteetan zehar egindako lanagatik, Euskadiren alde emandako ordu eta orduengatik”. It was with these hopeful, excited words that the chair of the Euzkadi Buru Batzar, Andoni Ortuzar, began his speech at Aberri Eguna by announcing that the EBB had this morning nominated Iñigo Urkullu as the party’s candidate for Premier in the 2016 Basque election. Mr. Urkullu has accepted the nomination, which must now obtain the backing of grassroots party members.
