Izaskun Bilbao reminds the Council of Europe that a majority in Congress rejected the agreement on refugees
Izaskun Bilbao has used a parliamentary initiative to ask the Council of Europe to take into account that the agreement on immigration that the Council is to ratify on 17-18 March has been rejected in Congress by an absolute majority.
“We believe that it is contrary to international and European legislation and goes against the values of the Union as set down in its Charter of Fundamental Rights”, she said.
The EAJ PNV Euro MP pointed out that the Spanish government representatives who are to attend the Council summit next week represent only an acting government and “refuse to answer to the new parliament that emerged from the elections on 20 December last, in which they have no majority”. Given the positions stated by the parties that between them currently represent an absolute majority in the lower house it is clear that the new Spanish parliament “rejects the text by an absolute majority”.
