On August 17, Athletic Club Bilbao added a title to their tally after 31 years of drought, overcoming Barcelona F.C. at the Camp Nou and lifting the Super Cup as a result. It was certainly no easy task for the red-and-whites as they faced the current league, cup and Champions League champions, who only two and a half months before had given the Athletic players a crushing blow in the cup final.

But it was time for revenge and the lions did not hesitate. They won the first leg at San Mamés 4-0 with a goal from Mikel San Jose and a hat trick from Aritz Aduriz, which gave Athletic a large advantage which was difficult to overcome; although with Barsa, anything was possible. In the return leg at the Camp Nou, the lions tightened their grip and managed to stay strong with a one-all draw, which gave victory to Athletic and so, the Super Cup.

Thousands of red-and-white fans went to the celebrations the day after in Bilbao, where they received the players as true "supertxapeldunak" (super champions). In this video you can see a summary of the atmosphere in the red-and-white camp.
