EAJ-PNV (the Basque National Party) includes promoting youth employment, competitiveness and the struggle against inequality in EDP Congress resolutions
EBB (Governing Council) Chair Andoni Ortuzar headed the EAJ-PNV delegation that took part in the 6th European Democratic Party (EDP) Congress in Brussels. Parties from 17 countries and nations took part in the event.
EAJ-PNV managed to get three key aspects included in the final resolutions adopted by the plenary session of the European Democratic Party (EDP) Congress held in Brussels, with the participation of political parties from 17 countries and nations: special, firm support for measures to boost youth employment, emphasis on competitiveness as a key tool for economic growth and the struggle against the widening economic gap between the favoured elites and the segments of society most exposed to the hardships of the crisis. All three points are now on the list of priorities and challenges identified by the EDP today at its plenary session. European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and Guy Verhofstadt, spokesperson for the ALDE (Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe) Group in the European Parliament spoke at the EDP Congress as guest leaders. Mr. Ortuzar talked to them both for a few minutes. Mr. Junker reminded Mr. Ortuzar that he and his party had previously voted against the motion filed by the Popular Party under José María Aznar to have the Basque national party expelled from the European Christian-Democrat International.
Along with Andoni Ortuzar, the EAJ-PNV delegation comprised EBB Secretary Pilar García de Salazar, governing council members Iñaki Goikoetxeta and Aitor Olaizola, Euro-MP Izaskun Bilbao, Senator María Eugenia Iparragirre, EAJ-PNV spokesperson on Vitoria-Gasteiz Municipal Council Gorka Urtaran, Head of the External Affairs Committee José María Etxebarria and External Affairs Committee member Luis Javier Pérez.
