52-year-old Bilbao, from Bermeo, is currently an EAJ-PNV member of the European Parliament. Bilbao will head the EAJ-PNV lists in Hegoalde. The jeltzale grouping, unlike the other Basque political parties, will also present its own list in France. Jean Tellechea will head the list for Iparralde. Tellechea, from Urruña, has also received the unanimous support of the National Assembly.

The highest body of EAJ-PNV has also endorsed the proposal submitted by the Euskadi Buru Batzar, by virtue of which the jeltzale grouping will take part in the European elections on 25 May in coalition with Convergència i Uniò, Coalición Canaria and Compromiso por Galicia.
