French National Assembly backs language charter

The French National Assembly has set in motion the legislative process for France to sign up to the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages. The promoters of the proposed bill seek to add a new Article 53.3 to the constitution to ratify this charter, which was drawn up on5 November, 1992. It is now up to the French government to table a bill to amend the constitution.
