Madonna and Kalakan

Although we have already seen the first pictures of Madonna wearing a typical Basque beret, the txapela, alongside the Basque band Kalakan, YouTube has recently shown us the rehearsals for the upcoming “MDNA Tour” starting in Tel Aviv, which provides some insight into the Queen of Pop’s Basque show.

The footage shows Madonna together with the trio from Iparralde, the French Basque Country, and her entire troupe of dancers, while the music being played loud is the classic “Sagarra jo”, which is part of the track “Elementuak” by Kalakan.

The most amazing thing about the scene, apart from seeing Madonna and all her dancers wearing a txapela, is the fusion of the troupe’s dance movements, which combine Basque dancing with breakdance in a way that is, to say the least, unusual.

The cooperation between Madonna and Kalakan was forged during the holidays the singer spent last summer on the Basque Riviera. During her visit to Guéthary, she met Thierry, Xan and Jamixel, the members of this band that mixes Basque tradition and modernity.

Kalakan performed at a birthday party attended by Madonna and her friends, and the US singer was captivated. As from that moment, the singer decided to count on them for some form of collaboration, and there they are, about to set off on a massive world tour.
