A thousand scientists from all over the world apply to work in the Basque Country
The Basque Country is attractive; especially for professionals from the world of science. Almost a thousand scientists from all over the world have applied for the 50 jobs on offer at research centres and universities in the Basque autonomous community. This is the figure provided by the latest call made by the Basque Foundation for Science – Ikerbasque, which has received 917 applications from professionals in 73 different countries.
Among those applying, 41% are Spanish, although 54 of these are located outsideSpain. Furthermore, note should be taken of the applications fromItaly(88, almost 10%),India(61), theUnited States(34),Germany(33), theUnited Kingdom(21) andCanada(25). Out of all these candidates, the final selection has involved 24 scientists as Research Professors and 25 for the Research Fellows programme, designed to attract and retain experts, under the age of 40, in several fields of knowledge, with a view to creating a “nursery” for scientists and researchers in the Basque Country.
