The oldest pollinating insects found in Araba
Some of the most important amber deposits in the world are to be found in the Basque Country, specifically in Araba, and they reveal highly important information on the micro organisms, plants and insects of more than 100 million years ago.
In one of these deposits, in Peñacerrada, pollinating insects have just been found that lived 100 million years ago. If the age of these animals preserved in amber seems impressive, remember that until now, the oldest known pollinating insects were 20 million years old.
