Getaria wins the Google Model Your Town competition

Google promotes an almost infinite range of competitions during the year to publicise its products to developers. And Getaria has walked away with the $25,000 prize in the Model Your Town competition.

As its name indicates, the competition consisted of the 3-D modelling of your own city, in this case using Google’s SketchUp program, and Getaria was the winner.

VirtualSim was the company commissioned to model the city’s entire historic centre, work which lasted throughout 2011. As the company itself states, it is difficult to estimate the number of hours involved but a total of 150 3-D models were developed, right down to their texturing.
