Bilbao, European City of Sport

Bilbao has been named European City of Sport 2012 in Brussels due to its commitment to encourage sports and the investment effort made in recent years to provide latest generation facilities and a varied and high quality sports offer.

This naming, awarded annually by the Associations of the European Capitals and Cities of Sport (ACES), is designed to promote the universal values of sports at the municipal level and is a major recognition of the city’s current sports policy, of the inter-institutional collaboration that allows the creation of new infrastructures (Frontón Bizkaia, Bilbao Arena, San Mames Barria, etc) and of the work of all the public and private persons involved in encouraging the practice of sports.
