Elena Arzak, the world‘s best female chef
The specialised British magazine Restaurant has awarded Elena Arzak the prize that makes her the world‘s best female chef in 2012, the Veuve Clicquot award, as recognition for her “innovation, creativity and determination” in the world of gastronomy.
The magazine emphasised that this award recognised the “work” of an “exceptional woman” whose dishes have “enthused” the “most demanding” gastronomic critics. “The award is inspired by the life and achievements of Madame Clicquot, who set the standards for women in the business world almost 200 years ago. The winner reflects the qualities of innovation, creativity and determination of Madame Clicquot," stated the magazine.
In a report, the gastronomic magazine explained that Elena Arzak belongs to the fourth generation of chefs in the Arzak family, which opened its first restaurant in 1897, and has stood out for her experience in running this establishment for the last five years in which she has “consistently” kept it within the top 10 of the 50 best restaurants in the world as well as being “the first Basque restaurant to attain three Michelin stars.”
