Egibar says that the debate opens up “a window to dialogue”

The spokesperson of the Euzko Abertzaleak-Basque National Group in the Basque Parliament, Joseba Egibar, has defended the debate on peace and coexistence in the Chamber as it opens up “a window to dialogue" and, otherwise "it would be difficult for us to share anything”. After stressing that “all the safeguards must be put in place to ensure dialogue” and that "nobody is excluded", he pointed out that "peace will be peace if it is ours", not if it "is individual".

Egibar stressed that there is “some way to go” and that ”since the earliest discussions about the peace process and normalisation in this country, every time we have spoken about dialogue, there has always been an overriding need to condition that dialogue, the reason why and among whom".

“It is going to be difficult to share anything”, if there is no dialogue. “And, even when there is dialogue, you need to listen, and to be able to share where applicable, which is not compulsory, the dialogue and the listening process if it can help you to understand the position of the other person," he added.
