EAJ-BNP declares itself against labour reforms but does not support general strike called for March 29

The Basque National Party (EAJ-BNP) has clearly expressed its position in various forums as against the labour reform that Mariano Rajoy‘s government is seeking to introduce. We are against the reform because we believe that it will only harm workers, whose rights will be reduced in such important areas as dismissal, employment contracts and other issues on which trade unions, workers and political parties have achieved gains in recent years. The Basque Group in the lower house of the Spanish parliament plans to submit 58 amendments to this legislative decree in an attempt to improve the reform so that the workers are not the only ones left worse off.

However, although EAJ-BNP respects the general strike called by the main trade unions in the Basque Country and the rest of Spainfor March 29, it does not support it.  We believe that the country is in no condition for strikes. The right thing to do is present initiatives aimed at creating jobs and reactivating employment so as to revitalise industry, We must all work together to move forward in this time of crisis, and a strike is not the best way of achieving this.
