5th Congress of Basque Centres

The Fifth World Congress of Basque Centres Abroad was held in Donostia-San Sebastián on November 2-4, 2011. The event was attended by representatives of 178 Basque centres from 24 countries on four continents: Europe, America, Asia and Oceania. The Congress analysed the situation of Basques living abroad and discussed their needs and demands.

Basque Centres have expressed their displeasure at this Congress, since under the provisions of Act 8/1994 of May 27 a document setting out the conclusions of the deliberations should have been drawn up and submitted to the Advisory Council for its consideration and for the preparation of a four-year plan. Basque Centres have said that they have “absolutely no knowledge of the existence of any such plan”.
