Xala wins bare-hand pelota final at Bizkaia court in Bilbao
Left-handed, Iparralde-born Yves Sallaberry, nicknamed “Xala”, is the new number one of bare-hand pelota after his exciting victory in the final, held at the Bizkaia court in Bilbao. He has thus rounded off the first half of the year as the champion in singles and runner-up in doubles. Second place in the overall ranking goes to Aimar Olaizola.

This most eagerly-awaited match of the season seemed to be jinxed: It was originally scheduled for June 12 but called off due to an injury to Olaizola II. It was then rescheduled for June 19 but had to be postponed again when Xala had to have his appendix removed. The match finally took place on July 3.
