This decision guarantees the supply of raw material for one of the signature dishes of Basque cuisine. The Commissioner was thus answering a parliamentary question raised by Izaskun Bilbao, the Basque national Euro-MP, that highlighted the problem affecting those importers.

Euro-MP Izaskun Bilbao expressed her pleasure that the Commission has included the kokotxas on the list of excluded products, which means that we can continue to import and eat kokotxas. She also stressed that cases such as this show “how important the decision taken her are for day-to-day aspects that are key to people’s lives”.
