Urkullu: “Each Party needs to get across its specific proposals for each of the provinces"
During a press conference at Sabin Etxea, the EAJ-BNP Chairman, Iñigo Urkulla, stressed that during the electoral campaign “EAJ-BNP based its discourse to society on three commitments. First, specific programme, proposals and projects. We unveiled a programme and we undertook to defend it from all institutions. Second, open agreements for a new era. The closed agreements, fractions and alliances are part of the past that we have to leave behind. We have undertaken not to form negative alliances and to avoid the policy of fractions. And thirdly, the priority of Basque society is getting the economy back on track and employment. We have stressed our know-how to deal with society's main concern. Our commitment is for all institutions to work together to develop the measures to trigger the economic recovery and job generation".
Urkullu pointed out that during the last two years EAJ-BNP has been “clearly committed to budgetary and institutional stability in all the institutions of the Basque Country. In September 2009, we offered a stability pact that was upheld for two years. We are again making a clear commitment to stability. We believe it is necessary, given the economic challenges we are facing and the opportunities to return to normalisation”.
“EAJ-BNP is the leading political power in the BAC and has the backing of the majority of Basque society”. We have held meetings with all political parties and we have outlined our programme and government priorities to them”.
“We have been holding meetings with all the political parties with representation and we have stressed our commitments." All the political powers know our programme and our project first hand. They also and are particular aware of our intention not to form part of any fraction that means the prior exclusion of any political party. We are convinced that something has changed in the Basque Country and we are going to continue to drive this change”.
Urkullu ended by pointing out that “we want to overcome the policy of negative alliances and fractions. We have unveiled a specific programme. We intend to work with all political parties. We are committed to political, economic and institutional stability. Basque society has backed us. We are the leading political power.
“We therefore ran for all the public institutions and our candidates stood in all the local councils of the BAC. And at the same time, we also decided to unveil and defend our programme and our candidates for the General Assemblies of each of the provinces. We believe and are convinced that it is a good political and democratic exercise to challenge the programmes. We believe that each Party standing for election to govern each of the three provincial councils needs to get across its specific proposal for each of the provinces"
