Bizkaia accumulates talent

Although talent is a scarce resource, Bizkaia can also boast its own fair share. Yet it is not only a question of qualities, but also one of opportunities. This Basque province offers them with a view to attracting, promoting, developing and retaining those professional people who are most competent, skilled, innovative and engaged. The Provincial Council has held an event to showcase the 71 talented individuals who currently provide their expertise in local companies and who have benefited from the subsidies the council has provided, as part of the Bizkaia: xede programme, rolled out in 2005 and which has been acknowledged by the European Union. So much so, in fact, that the EU is to subsidise the provincial programme over the four-year period 2011-2014 with 2 million euros, which will be fully allocated to hiring 53 professionals and researchers from all over the world to work in organisations headquartered in Bizkaia.

To date, there are 71 talented people applying their advanced knowledge to the province’s progress. "We want more and better professionals for Bizkaia and this is the path we are going to follow", explained Iñaki Hidalgo, the provincial deputy for Economic Development. "At the Provincial Council today we are working with an eye on the future, thinking of Bizkaia’s leaders for the 21st century", he added.
