Iñigo Urkullu: “In six month’s time, in May, Nafarroa is going to say Bai (Yes). Bai to modernity. Bai to Nafarroa Bai (Yes to Navarra)”.

Speaking today at Baluarte de Iruña (Pamplona's Congress Centre), the EAJ-PNV EBB Chairman, Iñigo Urkullu, pointed out "that today is the 35th anniversary of Franco's death. The beginning of a new era. A dream for our People.  We are now able to again dream that no-one will never again kill anyone as the result of senseless terror, which is what we demand. We have a new opportunity for a new era. A Basque Country without ETA. What we have dreamt of.

Urkullu recalled the words of José Antonio Aguirre when he said: "It is strange to note the coincidence between the left-wing and Spanish monarchist right-wing forces of our people, which emerge when the Basque people stand up for its freedom. Then, the coincidences are legitimate and they come together naturally". The EBB chairman stressed that they are words that "were written yesterday and apply today".

According to Urkullu, "it is here where the seed for our new era lies. Here, in Baluarte de Iruña. Here with a shared project. With a project discussed and thought up in Navarra for Navarra. This is Think Gaur Nafarroa 2020. Our new era starts here. And we going to make the most of it".

"José Antonio Aguirre was right. Three years ago, just three years ago, the PSN caved in to the UPN Spanish monarchist right. It caved in and handed over Navarra. A Navarra that had cried out for change, for modernisation, for progress. A Navarra that wanted to progress, was stopped in its tracks and the left handed it over to the far right.  Why? It is very simple.  Because they saw that the Basque people was also rising up here for its freedom. They saw that the people was demanding a new era, a new relationship, a new future. They would not allow it. They stopped it.  And what did they find? What are they going to find? That the people will react in the same way. Yet, in a way that has been corrected and is even stronger. They are going to find that Nafarroa is going to shout "BAI" (Yes) every more strongly and even more intensely. In six month's time, in May, Nafarroa is going to say Bai. Bai to change. Bai to modernization. Bai to a new future".

He finished by stressing that "our intention, our desire is that this change will occur through the political project that has been met by great enthusiasm, Nafarroa Bai (Yes to Navarra). A project for the present and the future. A project for the economic, social and political development of Nafarroa. A democratic project. A nationalist project. Made in Nafarroa and by the people of Navarra and for Nafarroa. Respecting human rights, plurality and rejecting any type of violence are the project's watchwords.  A project that is not constructed against anybody, but rather in favour of Nafarroa. And which does not belong to anything or anybody".  "This is the Nafarroa Bai that emerged in 2007.  And it is the Nafarroa Bai to which the Basque Nationalist Party humbly wishes to be committed and where it wants and desires to participate."
